Environment and Sustainability Goals: Q3 Highlights
PXC has an ongoing programme of work to reduce emissions in our offices, our data centres and our entire business. This includes having validated Science Based Targets – to reduce our footprint, in line with what scientists say is needed to make a lasting change.
This also means having to continually improve our performance in this space.
For the quarter which has just finished – September, October and November 2023 – we have three key highlights to demonstrate our progress against the goals.
Carbon Literacy Training
Essential to hitting our targets will be ensuring that our people are trained and understand how best to integrate environmental considerations into their daily jobs.
We are delighted to have partnered with Carbon Literacy Project. They are a charity from Manchester, who have created highly sought-after climate training which has been taken by over 55,000 people to date.
We have created our own specific version, relevant to the business we operate in. And we’re delighted to say that we are the first telecoms company anywhere in the world to have an accredited Carbon Literacy course.
We now start rolling the course to our staff in 2024.
Small Business Guidance
Our Head of Sustainability & ESG, Will Ennett chairs a working group of the telecoms industry, working collaboratively to tackle common challenges around climate.
What was identified as a gap for the sector is helping small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) in telecoms to get to net zero. Having surveyed many companies, we found a lack of confidence on where to start a company to identify, and tackle, carbon emissions.
The result has been that in November, the group launched free guidance for SMEs. This includes inspirational stories from businesses who are making a difference, and the methodologies suggested are endorsed by the industry.

Awards and recognition
Finally, we were delighted to be recognised at the Comms National Awards in the Sustainability Awards category!
Against a large field of excellent nominees, we took home the prize. The judges were impressed with the company’s track record, which included a drop in emissions in offices and data centres by over 90% in 5 years.
We continue to push towards reducing our emissions, and doing even better in 2024.
