James Smith, Chief Executive Officer - TalkTalk Group and PXC

James has been Chief Executive Officer of TalkTalk Group and PXC since September 2024. Having joined the business in April 2023, he previously served as Chief Financial Officer of both companies - working closely on the creation and development of PXC.

As CEO, he is geared to take the business on to the next stage of its strategic direction, bringing significant experience in strategic transformation, capital markets, mergers and acquisitions to the fore.

James has worked in the telecoms, energy and infrastructure sectors. Before TalkTalk, he spent nine years as CFO at the FTSE 250 listed Capricorn Energy, and prior to that had an extensive career in investment banking at Rothschild and Merrill Lynch.

Tom O’Hagan, Executive Chairman

Tom became Executive Chairman of PXC in September 2024, turning his focus to client relationships and strategic direction. He joined TalkTalk in March 2022 on the acquisition of Virtual1, one of the largest wholesale providers in the UK B2B market, which he founded in 2007.

He first connected Virtual1 with TalkTalk’s Wholesale Services business, and then its network and security arm, creating PXC, of which he was CEO until August 2024.

Tom has more than 20 years’ experience in the telecoms industry, having worked for leading global telecommunication providers both in the UK and the USA before founding Virtual1. This drive, determination and ambition saw Tom recognised as the Entrepreneur of the Year at the Comms National Awards in 2017.

2010

TalkTalk is demerged from Carphone Warehouse

2014

TalkTalk launches 1GB network in York

2018

TalkTalk launches Fibre Nation aiming to reach 3m premises

2020

Fibre Nation is sold to City Fibre

2022

TalkTalk acquires Virtual1

2023

TalkTalk is demerged into three separate business entities: TalkTalk Consumer, Business Direct and PlatformX

2024

PlatformX is formally launched
